BOARD BRIEFS FOR THE MARCH 17, 2026, BOARD MEETING

The following is a snapshot from the Minutes of the March 17, 2026, meeting that the Board approved at the April 21, 2026, meeting. "Board Briefs" will be sent out to our staff and families following the approval of the Minutes by the Board of Trustees.
 

CALL TO ORDER & CLOSED SESSION REPORT

The March 2026 Regular Board of Trustees' meeting was held on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at the Ron V. Oates (RVO) Meeting Room and was called to order at 4:00 pm by Board President Jessica Spaid. At roll call, Trustee Underwood and Board Clerk Duncan were not present; however, they arrived shortly after Closed Session began. The meeting was moved to Closed Session at 4:01 pm. Open Session Reconvened at 5:35 pm.
President Spaid reported out on the items reviewed in Closed Session.

WELCOME, PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE & APPROVAL OF AGENDA

Board President Jessica Spaid welcomed all in attendance, and Student Board Member Maddy Marquez led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Notice was given that the meeting is being audio and video recorded.

The Agenda was approved with the notice that the Staff Report about Math would be moved to a later date.
 

REPORTS AND COMMUNICATION

Board Reports ~
Members of the Board shared about events they have attended during the past month.

Ad Hoc Committee Updates ~
Board Policy Audits (Jeffreys/Spaid) -
  • Continuing to work through the policies.
BB 9030 Direction Regarding Complaints
Against Board Members (Duncan/Jeffreys) -
  • Asking to dissolve the current Ad Hoc Committee and get new members. Following a brief discussion, Trustees Lake and Underwood volunteered to be the new Ad Hoc Members.

Student Board Member Reports ~
The Student Board Members shared updates about their sites with the Board.
Superintendent/Deputy Superintendent Reports ~
Tom O'Malley, Superintendent, and Dr. Steve Caminiti, Deputy Superintendent, updated the Board on various items and brought upcoming events to the Board's attention.

Labor Partner Reports ~
ATP President Beth Lomeli
  • Continued requests for information regarding the Trustee Duncan investigation, as ATP would like to see the self-governance in action.
  • BP 4319.24 - asked for the ability to use Google Voice and clarify language

CSEA President Dustin Schroeder
  • Honored to represent members and work collaboratively
  • Introduced Elena Bessette from CSEA
 

COMMUNITY RECOGNITION

HEIDEE HARVEY
Recognized for her dedicated support of the students, staff, and community of Colfax High School.

SHOWCASE
Assistant Principal Shane Steinback shared this presentation with the Board with an update on Colfax High School.
 

PUBLIC COMMENT ON NON-AGENDIZED ITEMS

Opportunity for members of the public to address the Board for items not on the agenda.
 

CONSENT AGENDA ITEMS

The Board approved the Consent Agenda with the motion of moving Consent Item 8.8 to Action.
